Just got this from Sony: “I’m pleased to announce Dualshock 3 will be released in the UK on July 4th for £39.99.”

Full press release after the break.

DUALSHOCK®3 Wireless Controller
available for PLAYSTATION®3 this summer
Feel the full power of your games as the eagerly awaited DUALSHOCK®3 Wireless Controller arrives on PS3™

June 27, 2008: Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) today announced that DUALSHOCK®3 Wireless Controller will be available for PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) in Europe on July 4, 2008. The eagerly awaited wireless controller with vibration function will put truly responsive gaming power into players’ hands, shaking up gaming experiences when it arrives on PS3 this summer.

It’s not what you see – it’s what you feel that makes DUALSHOCK 3 the first choice for all gamers. More than 28 million DUALSHOCK controllers have been sold since the first DUALSHOCK release for PlayStation® in 1998. Now DUALSHOCK 3 puts some serious power into existing and future PS3 titles, with its vibration function offering even more interactive play between gamers and the many games – past, present and future – which support the vibration functionality. DUALSHOCK 3 also retains the high-precision, high-response motion-sensitive aspects that have made SIXAXIS so popular.

David Reeves, President and CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, commented, “We are delighted to confirm that DUALSHOCK 3 will be released in SCEE territories in early July. We hope this will add to the intense gaming experience for our fans, as we continue to evolve PS3, its software and its peripherals.”

Almost all future PS3 releases will support DUALSHOCK 3, and the controller is already compatible with many existing PS3 titles (firmware upgrade 1.94 required). Face the heart-pounding fear of alien warfare in Resistance: Fall of Man™, hold tight as you tear through the streets of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue™, or feel the thrill of treasure hunting in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune™ – your favourite PS3 games like you’ve never experienced them before.

Making your gaming experience more immersive, more intuitive and more realistic, DUALSHOCK 3 is the only Bluetooth® controller combining vibration function and SIXAXIS™ features, and the first choice for anyone wanting to get the most out of their PS3 gaming experience.

Thanks Sony, only took since November 2007 to get it over here officially. I guess doing the localisation on controllers is a bitch.

Now bundle it and cut the price again before LBP. Thanks. :)

Oof! 40 quid for rumble? I don’t think so. Time to import I guess…

About bloody time! Does this mean it’s going to start becoming the de facto pack-in controller for hardware bundles or do we have to wait even longer for that?

Also: £40 is about £10 too expensive imho.

About chuffing time. Now start bundling it with MGS4 already.

I could just about justify paying £25 for a new controller, but £40?? Sony have to be having a laugh. Plus, they don’t seem too keen on reducing the price of their first-party peripherals – PS2 memory cards are still retailing for the full whack, so I reckon we can expect a £40 price tag for at least a couple years. Barmy!

It is Europe, yeah. That’s what he said, though.

Aside from the whole it’s taken far too long and should have been with the machine from the start. All those complaining about the price.

Wii-mote + nunchuk = £45+ (edit £51 if bought from Game £33 + £18)
360 controller + a rechargeable battery pack = £43

What price were you expecting for bend over Europe?

I just ordered from Yes-Asia, although it won’t be with me for 3 weeks, it costs half the price.

Unless I don’t get stung by customs.

They all look like £30 on YesAsia to me. Which one did you get?

I’ve had one on pre-order from DVD.co.uk for months now at £18. I hope they honour that price!

DrDamn – the Danish Kroner to USD exchange rate is slightly strong than the pound. It cost me 268kroner, about £28.

Some of you need to spend less time and effort complaining about something you actually want, and more looking for a good deal:

http://shop.gameplay.co.uk/webstore/productpage.asp?productcode=PX0359&title=dual_shock_3

Gameplay charge no P&P (second class) on peripherals (99p for first class).

And we don’t know what Play and Amazon will charge yet either.

@RevolutionBlues
Exactly. Too much “WTF I can import for £30!!!”. When you look at online prices here they are similar – cheaper if you get stung by tax on the import.
