PS3 movie downloads coming to the US this summer
Sony just announced that PS3 movie downloads will begin this summer in the US.
According to this AP report, Europe and Japan will get the service at a later date.
There are images of the new service on Famitsu, as well as a lot more info (in Japanese) on the ongoing PlayStation Business Review in Japan.

Good stuff. Hopefully it wont take too long, good to have as much choice as possible for this sort of thing.

That little presentation has a few interesting snippets in it, not least that White Knight Story is to be released before the end of this financial year.

This is one area where Sony must surely have the edge over MS and Apple. After buying MGM a few years back, I believe Sony own the largest library of films in the industry, that’s surely going to help.

Possibly, but then again…. do we really need our consoles to do this stuff? It’s not like LoveFilm doesn’t exist. Or Sky Movies. Or Blockbuster. I’d really much rather they put the effort into… y’know… some games.

Depends really. I got so sick of how awful TV was, I chose to get rid of it, so I welcome this sort of thing. I’m still not sold on buying purely digital products, but for renting I’m totally sold. No more late fees or having to travel back and forth to shops, and no scratched discs to worry about.
Yeah, I’m looking forward to this.

Despite having the top end lovefilm subscription and the highest level Virgin package I still find myself renting downloadable movies now and again. (Mostly because the 360 films are cheaper than the Virgin on demand films)
