According to this Strategy Informer story, EA boss John Riccitiello has told the William Blair & Company’s 28th Annual Growth Stock Conference that upcoming BioWare RPG Dragon Age is cash in the bank.
“[Dragon Age] speaks to a very, very, very important audience,” said Riccitiello. “This is a core RPG created for fans that love [BioWare], and it’s about dragons. This is not risky. This is an audience that we know, that we can deliver for and generate very substantial profits by doing so.”
That game’s about as risky as a steel condom, so good call, John. Game’s out next year.

People have been waiting more than seven years for a good, Baldur’s Gate II-like title, of course DA won’t fail commercially if it can deliver and differentiate itself enough from Bioware’s post-BGII works. They better own up to it because the market for more complicated partybased RPG’s (no dumbed-down NWN, KotOR, JE or ME stuff) is just ready for the taking with a well-executed game.
