Rumour: Trioxide allows console games to be played on PC
We missed this in the rush last night. As part of the incredible Intellisponse leak-athon came details of a product called Trioxide, which apparently lets you play console games on your PC.
“Introducing the ability to play the latest console games (i.e. Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, etc.) on your PC. Many of these games are only available on consoles today and with this new feature would now be available on the PC as well. With this new feature those console games are now playable on your PC!
Uses the same game controllers as the original console system (all games use regular console controllers, not your computer keyboard or mouse.)”
No one knows what this quite is, or who – if anyone – is actually making it. Read all the other news from the Intellisponse break-out here.

Nice idea, but I just can’t really see this working. Even if they were able to overcome the technical hurdles, this has got to be a legal minefield. There’s no way Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft are going to allow a third party to produce emulation software (which is presumably what this must be) for their consoles.

There’s a comment on Shacknews about Bleem!. Remember that? Ages ago. Was supposed to do the same thing for PlayStation games.

Reminds me of Bleem!
There’s no way they’d be allowed to do this.
Bleem! worked pretty well though, and it was only really stopped when they released Bleemcast and Sony got worried.

There’s no way on Earth current PCs can emulate 360s and PS3s. They can barely manage PS2s.
I still think this is one of those “stream video/audio from our console to your PC over the ‘net” things. Effectively making your PC a dumb terminal for someone else’s bank of consoles. It’ll still never work.

I agree, this sounds a bit sci-fi to me.
