Microsoft to make “spectacular, desperate” play in E3 press conference

Following talk that Microsoft is to announce two new major games in its E3 press conference, videogaming247 has learnt from trusted sources that the announcements are to be “interesting, partly spectacular and a bit desperate.”

The insider added: “Let’s put it this way: they’re worried the current line-up can’t carry Q4 for the entire Xbox brand in the core market. You’ll laugh when you see what they’re planning.”

Microsoft confirmed its E3 roster last night, listing Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Fable 2, Gears of War 2, Halo Wars, Too Human and Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise as its first-party offering for the Holiday season.

The firm’s E3 conference will take place on July 14 at 10.30am PST.

Consider our interest piqued.

They’re not going to get the casual market, but then neither is Sony. Nintendo owns that space.

I’d say something Halo-related would be a reasonable assumption.

“You Say Goodbye and I say Halo” the Fab Four fight against the Covenant while playing concerts across the galaxy to adoring fans, combines fast action first person shooter with karaoke/Guitar Hero style sections for whole family entertainment. Includes Plasma Guitar Rifle peripheral and motion sensing Beatle Wig.

If it’s Halo related why is it desperate?

I’m definitely interested though. How do you get spectacular and desperate? =D

It’s got to be that MS-mote thingy that’s been doing the rounds for the last few months.

Has to be.

Blu Ray? That fits the spectacular, interesting and desperate angle perfectly.

Pat: Rushing an update wouldn’t be spectacular though. Or at least I don’t think so. Wouldn’t help with casuals either.

Wiimote-clone or BluRay. With emphasis on the latter.

#25

Psychotext

Yeah, blu ray would cover spectacular and desperate. Though to be spectacular it would need to be in a new slimline 360 model. =)

It’d cover desperate, but ‘spectacular’? Nah.

I still think it’ll be a shoe-horning of a previous game world into a new type of game. Or a bizarre reinvention of some bit of crap from ages ago that we thought they’d forgotten. Blinx, or something. :-D

Heh. Blinx 3 would be amazing.

It’d be a spectacular u-turn, of course it would join the u-turns on 1080p and HDMI as well.

There’s a lot of people saying that Nintendo own the casual market here… that implies that casual market is one where people buy a console like the Wii with Wii Sports, then maybe buy one game a year when “Wii Fat Fighter” or “DS Cook yo-self Sexy!” comes out.

This casual market really doesn’t seem that appealing if you ask me. It seems to shift units but no software… certainly no third party software.

Ah maybe I’m looking at this a bit too simplistically… and anyway, from what Pat said in the story, it’s about holding the core fort.

I’d laugh my fucking arse of if it was Blu-ray. That would be actually funny.

that_happy_cat: Sega would disagree that the Wii is incapable of moving third party software. Third parties can help themselves too by not releasing utter shite.

Mattrick, naked and with a gun in his mouth, begging us to buy his console? That’d be spectacular and desperate.

Or Blu-Ray.

Sorry for being late to the party but I just wanted to say that the line up they have looks pretty damn solid to me. Can’t see anything missing really except maybe a racing game.

3rd parties will have more stuff too won’t they?

So … yeah… why would they be desperate?

I don’t think its Blue-Ray. I would go for really desperate like fixing the damn RROD problem that would be desperate.

I can see it now MS is sitting there going ” SH!& we might actually have to fix the damn thing so people will buy it. Thats just might work “

“You’ll laugh when you see what they’re planning.”

Avatars.

From a survey I received, with the topic: Welcome to our survey, today we have a fun and interesting survey for you about potential NEW Xbox360 features

I certainly laughed once I saw what the survey was about, then I saw this story. I’m almost certain this is connected.

Lips?
Scene it?
Avatars?

#44

Psychotext
17/07/08, 4:12 pm

Those are desperate? Scene it is a franchise from last year so it’s no surprise to see it back… LIPS is just another Karaoke game, it’s not like Singstar was the only one of those. Avatars? Maybe.

But I was looking more for spectacular and desperate.

I think you’ve got a bit of a chip on your shoulder klanger. Here have a look at this image. It’s old, I know, but just an example of what I mean:

I don’t know why Sony get chastised for “stealing” yet Microsoft and Nintendo do it and nobody bats an eyelid.

It’s carrying on from a conversation that klanger and I were having in the press conferences thread. Hence I aimed the image at him.

That image is so many shades of bullshit. Posting it is pure Kotaku troll-baiting stuff. I really have to wonder what sort of level this site is trying to position itself as.

Anyway, that morons can still harp on about Nintendo “inventing” analogue is the longest running joke in this culture.

I was consistent in that I didn’t watch any of the conferences. But the whole “me too” sentiment behind all of Microsoft’s headliners didn’t do anything for me whatsoever.

Seriously, you can come and go as you please. It’s just light hearted. It’s “games”. It’s not serious.

Relax.
