Ubidays 2008: No co-op in new Prince of Persia, says producer

According to this EG piece, there’ll be no co-op play in the new Prince of Persia, despite there being such a prominent second character in the game.

“No, is the short answer,” producer Ben Mattes told the site. “The longer answer is it’s impossible to capture the flow of the two characters’ interaction between human players.”

“The longer answer is it’s impossible to capture the flow of the two characters’ interaction between human players.”

Can someone parse that sentence for me? I can’t quite figure it out.

Basically, they’ll get in each other’s way on screen, I think.

I guess they mean that the two character’s attacks will be interwoven – you attack, the other one does something as well so that you attack together. With another human into the equation they’d have to allow for the fact that the second player could do anything they wanted. I guess you can see his point.

Surprising, though. I figured for sure that co-op would turn out to be the main reason behind the whole mechanic.

Ah. That’s makes sense. And sounds cool to boot. If it works.

She looks nothing like her! Apart from the short hair. Maybe.
