According to this CVG piece, Far Cry 2′s single-player campaign is 50 hours long, but no co-op play will be included.

“Just on single alone, gamers can potentially have close to 50 hours of game play,” said producer Louis-Pierre Pharand.

“We decided to abandon [co-op] for this instalment simply because of the complexity and size of the game. Add the Multi experience & the Map Editor… gamers will have their money’s worth with Far Cry2.”

50 hours? For a shooter? Surely not?

Wind Waker was supposed to be around 50 hours.

Probably only because it involved what seemed like about 25 hours of sailing from place to place though…

I’ve a looming feeling the whole setup/story of this game is going to be as hideous as that of something like, Soldier of Fortune, only more depressing because it thinks it’s telling us something ‘important’.

I can easily see it being hugely nieve, irresponsible and offensive to modern-day Africa and African history. In a way that if it were a feature film, would lead it to being shot down by any producer/funding agent at the very first hurdle for being childish nonsense.

Forgein mercenaries have been amongst the biggest problems in Africa over the years. For example, a huge amount of the fighters in the Congo’s worst fighting after independance in the early 60′s were forgein mercenaries. I don’t think these sort of people, people like ‘Mad’ Mike Hoare, should be glamourised like this at all.

Here’s hoping they’re doing something clever with the whole thing and aren’t sticking to the tried and trusted videogame conventions of ‘muscles = good’ and ‘over-the-top accent = bad’ while ignoring everything else.
