CNET calls this generation, makes hilarious graph

CNET has published an article on how this hardware generation is likely to play out, creating a graph which sums up the conclusions of most sensible pundits in a way words never could. Take a look for yourself. In a nutshell, the site predicts that both PS3 and Wii will top 105 million units a piece by 2012, while Xbox 360 will be lucky to reach 40 million. Shane probably had a point.

The graph says it all I think, “hey look I’ve made a pretty picture full of made up numbers!”

I went to the Pach-Man school of closet fanboyism.

I’d have expected jumps in growth for the PS3 in 2009 and 2011 rather than a steady progression. This would match when the Blu-Ray lasers start to fail and when Sony finally discount the machine by a reasonable amount respectively.

I think the main issue the analysts have is that they don’t realise the PS3 is not the PS2… and never will be.

Especially now that they’ve taken the BC out. :-D

PS3… not even half a PS2.

(you think that would work in the adverts?)

This is kind of misleading; CNET is not really predicting it, they just graphed out some analyst’s prediction.

I wonder why all the analysts hate the XBox so much?

Why the sudden conviction that PS3 is going to jump through the roof in sales anyway? Because of MGS4 and FFXIII?

I’ve yet to see a single console climb back from the console “war” due to triple-a title, no matter how good the quality.
