Microsoft slams GTA IV PS3 install time in PR mail
Just got this from Microsoft PR:
With the OXM review hitting streets today, and your own preview impressions which are looking great, hopefully you’ll all be a bit wiser as to the ins and outs of GTA IV now.
I’m sure you’ve all seen the chatter from the 1up GTA IV Preview on the PS3 install time….just a few thoughts on what you could do in this time if you were actually playing the 360 version from the moment you insert the disc….
· Steal your first dozen or so cars and test out the improved vehicle handling?
· Check out the cool features on your mobile phone?
· Rack up a 5 Star Wanted Rating?
· Have a blast of your first MP game on Xbox LIVE?
· Ditch the tracksuit chic and buy some new clothes?
· Unlock your first GTA IV Achievement and boost your Gamerscore?
….Or just start downloading a film from Xbox LIVE Video Store to watch later – check out the latest batch of arrivals this weekend!

It makes me think that the PS3 might actually perform better than the 360 version with the amount of fuss they are trying to make about the PS3 version.

True, they are a bit of an embarrassment at times. They’re the David Brent of the console industry.

Holy Jesus, what a bunch of childish bastards! This seriously makes me laugh.
I wonder if their PR people get paid based on their ***hole factor?
But seriously. It has also been reported that the 360 has the same install, only optional. If it’s that unimportant for them, they should have just cut the optional install on the 360…

This comes from the same mindset as when MS had that XBOX 360 boat float past the PS3 London Launch event. Pretty childish.
Oh well.

So what would you rather do? Play GTAIV on its new home (The Microsft XBox 360) or watch “Installing please wait”?
Embrace the changes fellas.
GTA has a new home

I’d spend the 5 mins thinking about how fortunate my PS3 came with a hard-drive as standard.

I can undestand that it must be hard for them to watch their one year head start getting steadily eaten up, but, come on…

Install or not both consoles will play the game just the same. Its really petty to try and make out that your versions better than the other. The developers especially with such high profile game must make sure it works perfectly or 99% close to perfect on each console.
Sony and Microsoft are just as petty as each other its only fan boys that get sucked into there bullshit and lies.

When did the MS PR guys shrug off all pretense at professionalism? I would’ve thought they’d feel comfortable having purchased exclusive DLC; but this makes them look nervous, lashing out and clutching at minor issues. Do they know something we don’t know?

Nice. Now i hate them even more.
They are getting worked up about a 5 minute install when the 360 also has an optional install which most 360 owners will take advantage of if they want to get the max out of their game.
#17
Tonka
18/04/08, 6:40 pm
Of course they won’t play the same. Wasn’t the 360 lead platform? If you look at other games where this has been the case the 360 always come out on top.

We don’t know f’all.

I dont wanna say this is BS but it´s hard for me to believe that Microsoft would say something like that.
Why ?
They haven´t done this before
Only this Site seems to have recieved this PR

It wasn’t a press release. It was an email from Microsoft UK PR. There’s no pretense. It is what it is.

This is obviously written by SDF in a bid to slander GTAs new home.

Yeah I think thats more likely, someone trying to make MS look bad with some Fake Email I mean, the fact this is the only site reporting about this doesn´t help either.

erm… actually mate i would rather have installing please wait… as long as i know it will run smoothly and not burn down my house: http://gamerush.zoomshare.com/files/news/002563_Xbox_360_almost_burns_down_house.htm so in the long run. by GTA experience will be better than yours. Microsoft are getting despirate as seen from the article above.

@kasai
“Install or not both consoles will play the game just the same.”
Well obviously not true otherwise why have an optional install on the 360? It’s got to improve something above a non-install surely?
Insider info says two versions are near identical – but presumably they are comparing two installed versions.
I’ve got the 360 version on pre-order and I will spend the 5 minutes doing the optional install.
#44
morriss
19/04/08, 1:27 pm
I doubt it will make much difference, if any. Maybe they’ll be a slight pause as you go over a bridge to another city or something like that but I doubt it will have any impact on gameplay/frame rate.
#45
DrDamn
19/04/08, 1:29 pm
Then why bother having it as an option on the 360?
#46
morriss
19/04/08, 1:52 pm
So you don’t get those loading times?
#47
morriss
19/04/08, 1:54 pm
Or you can look at it another way – if it did impact gameplay, why make it optional? If the game detects a HDD is present, it should basically do the install as mandatory like the PS3.
#48
XDamage
19/04/08, 1:56 pm
That’s reason enough. The only ones who don’t install will either not do it on principle, or they don’t have an HDD.
#49
DrDamn
19/04/08, 1:57 pm
Yeah but it would have to be some significant difference for them to have bothered (hence the question over your “if any”).
Personally yeah it will be playable and still a great game without an install on a 360 core machine, but maybe have more texture pop-in and a couple of brief loading pauses as you cross area boundaries. Wait and see, but its got to be something you would want to bother doing otherwise why the option?
#50
DrDamn
19/04/08, 2:00 pm
Why not mandatory if a HDD is present? Cos most 360′s have a 20GB HD with only 13GB of that free to start off with. Not much to play with and get mandatory on peoples asses with. The better speed and more importantly seek times of the optical drive on the 360 will make the game acceptable with an install – an install is still preferable though, and if you know everyone will have a slightly reasonable HDD present then you will want them to get the best experience from your game possible on their available hardware.
