Firmware 2.30 to launch in Europe on April 15

SCEE’s just confirmed to videogaming247 that the next PS3 Firmware, version 2.30, will release alongside the new PS Store on April 15 in Europe.

“Yes, Firmware 2.30 will be released at the same time,” said a rep.

The spokesperson also confirmed that the DTS sound upgrade detailed yesterday will be included in the European release.

The update is required to run the new Store, which was confirmed for an April 15 launch this morning.

So the 1080 scaling didn’t make it? :(

I assume it’s exactly the same release globally.

Yeah but the interview with the engineers said 1080 scaling was ‘also being done at some point’ or words to that effect, although there’s been no mention of it so far in 2.30.

Might be there though.

Think you’ve got your wires crossed. The engineers are looking at better deinterlacing for 1080i video. If by 1080 scaling you’re referring to games being scaled to run at 1080p, that’s not going to happen any time soon – if at all.

The nVidia GPU in PS3 is actually a bit broken. The hardware scaling only works horizontally, not vertically. I’m not sure if any software update can fix that.

No I mean games being scaled from 720p to 1080i.

But yeah, I thought it was too good to be true. :(
