Nintendo debunks “Wii Want More” DLC press release

smashbrosbrawl9.jpg

A “press release” claiming to announce a Wii download called Wii Want More isn’t exactly kosher, according to Nintendo UK.

“I expect it to be false,” a rep told videogaming247 this morning.

The release – which has caused a storm of controversy on the web in the last few days – claimed that “one of 27 games to make use of the Wii Want More service at its launch will be none other than our very own best selling Super Smash Bros.® Brawl! Starting May 13, 2008, players will be able to add four undisclosed new characters and two new stages to the already large roster included in the stand-alone game for only 10.00 USD.”

The URL of that page doesn’t fit into the same format as the rest of NoA’s press site, and there’s no mention of Wii Want More on the press release section. Which kind of suggests Mr Nintendo UK’s probably right.

So there we are. Phil knows best.
