GRID video – bloody hell fire

grid.jpg

This new movie of Codemasters’ GRID looks incredible. It’s the Neogaf games graphs of racing games. Watch it after the link. It’s out this summer for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Okay, I think GT5 has to wait little bit longer cause this just looks way more fun.

Proper damage and everything. Look at the graphics!

Yep, only thing that could stop me from buying it would be absolutly terrible handling.

I doubt it’ll be anything other than brilliant handling. It’s the TOCA team, as far as I know.

Jeeeeesus. That’s astounding. Mind you, DiRT had terrific graphics, too – it just looked like the lens had been smeared a bit.

Just noticed there is a Aston Martin race car. \o/

Wonder if this will feature some sort of multiplayer…I hope so.

JEBUS!!!!

Why haven’t I heard of this, the cars seem to have weight, crashes look awesome, some of the camera angles look a bit like replays to me but it actually looks fun unlike GT5 which becomes a chore.

I’m more excited about Motorstorm with splitscreen but looking very good.

That looks pretty average to me. It looks good, don’t get me wrong, but it’s nothing special.

@Zumi: Jaded much?

That looks stunning! Codies have always had the best balance between realism and fun, whilst having cracking AI, so hopefully this could be pretty damn decent. I just hope they’ve tweaked their engine (NEON, isn’t it?) to be able to handle 60fps

I’ve just watched this three times in HD and it makes my hair stand on end.

Looks good. Looks very good. I’ve been a bit off racers for a while now, but something that actually looks this great and (judging by the video) actually has a healthy does of fun in there might actually persuade me to give it a go.

/adds to watch list

Spoken to someone who knows someone who’s played it. Apparently it’s great. Which is good.

Even on that GT video it looked like it was running way over 30fps. I bet it still tears once ported to consoles, though.

I thought this one was leading on PS3, actually. The big dev interview in this month’s Edge is littered with shots of the PS3 version.

“Jaded much?”

Not really. It’s a well produced video, but you could make a similar video of most modern racing games, using those kinds of angles and such. Burnout could do it at treat. It looks good, but I’m not seeing anything here that’s particularly special. It’s just a bunch of cars racing.

That might be why it’s called a racing game. ;P

It looks great to me, looks like its 60fps too, which would definitely be a bonus considering how much DiRT was challenged in the frame rate and screen tearing department.

Can’t help but feel that there’s some technical sleight of hand going on here though. This looks better than GT5 Prologue and with all due respect to Codies, I’m struggling to believe they could top Polyphony Digital in the graphics department – especially on a cross-platform project.

An awful lot of damage going on there as well. They do have a reputation for making very good looking games, however. You’re right, though: it does look like a step up. We’ll have to wait and see, I guess.

How to people tell at how many fps a game runs?

Our friend grandmaster there’s a technical world warrior. He doesn’t see screens: he sees frames, inputs and “mobile HD solutions” ;)
