Nintendo UK ready for “explosive” April

Nintendo UK’s marketing director Dawn Paine reckons Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii are going to set Wii on course for a massive April likely to further expand the machine’s user-base.

“We think Wii Fit is a very catalytic title for us and we think it is the next chapter in the true broadening of the marketplace,” she said. “We’ve achieved that already to some extent with both Wii and DS but with Wii Fit we think it’s going to be explosive in terms of the breadth of the appeal of the product – and retail is very excited by that. With Mario Kart we think that there is a huge opportunity to appeal to both the core Mario Kart and Nintendo gamers – so we have very high expectations.”

Wii Fit launches in Europe on April 25, following the April 11 launch of Mario Kart Wii.

I’m not sure Wii Fit’s going to be quite the success that Nintendo thinks it is. Having said that, my sister’s getting a Wii for her birthday purely for Wii Fit, so there’s one sign of it appealing outside the traditional demographic.

I’ve got a good feeling about Mario Kart, though.

I’d be amazed if Mario Kart wasn’t any good. Amazed, I tell you.

does any proper gamer really care about Nintendo any more.

Its more an exercise aid than a console now I was going to get one at launch but slowly I just realised its an incredibly shallow and boring games machine. Full of gimmicky boring games. Not even Mario Kart can convince me to ever buy one now.
