PS3 firmware upgraded to 2.17

Sounds thrilling. Apparently SCEA’s upgraded PS3′s firmware to 2.17, a fix that means “operating stability of some online PS3 titles has been improved,” according to this.

What’s so thrilling about it?:) It’s not like Sony has suddenly decided to add ingame XMB. Just a bunch of bug/hole/ability to play backed up games fixes. What a shame…

Oh. Well in that case. Yeah! Sony! You’re the best! You deliver!

Although there is one interesting tidbit. It says so here:
http://ps3.qj.net/PlayStation-3-firmware-2-17-out-now-Update-/pg/49/aid/115786
that on the official japanese sony site there’s a strange line about the update which goes something like this: “That can be installed to hard disk PlayStation 2 has been added to the standard software.”

I wonder if it is a legit PS2 titles back up functionality. Could somebody go there and explore what it is?
